About Us

In our normal lives Ed is a teacher and Helen is a geneticist. Last year, Helen finished her PhD, so we decided it was the best time to set off on a long dreamed of trip to China by bike. Ed reluctantly gave up a great job, but as he put it: "It's about time I went to see some of the places I teach about". In the end, we reached China and cycled over 15500 km. We are now back in the UK. Thank you to all the wonderful people who looked after us on our trip. We often felt humbled by the kindness of strangers.

Turkey 1: Marmaris to Alanya

Our arrival in Turkey coincided with a big change in the weather. Of course, we had beautiful sunshine while we were sitting waiting for visas! Since we have been in Turkey, it has mostly rained. A LOT. Thankfully we found a great pension on our first night in Marmaris, which also had the bonus of having Turkey's fattest cat. This photo does not do it justice...

Chai break with Erkan and his workers. We met Erkan during breakfast at a pension in Myra and he invited us to drop by his warehouse on the way out of town. His business delivers Turkish grown peppers, cucumbers and tomatos all over Europe. We drank plenty of tea...


... and left with the most delicious selection of veg. Thanks Erkan!

    I went to Side a few years ago, been in the exact same place as you! Looks like you're having loads of fun, good luck on the rest of the journey! The whole of 5EJW (DJF now) misses you!

    That is the best excuse for a camp-site fire, which you guys obviously started, that I've ever heard!
