About Us

In our normal lives Ed is a teacher and Helen is a geneticist. Last year, Helen finished her PhD, so we decided it was the best time to set off on a long dreamed of trip to China by bike. Ed reluctantly gave up a great job, but as he put it: "It's about time I went to see some of the places I teach about". In the end, we reached China and cycled over 15500 km. We are now back in the UK. Thank you to all the wonderful people who looked after us on our trip. We often felt humbled by the kindness of strangers.

Switzerland UPDATED

Having found a computer that works, internet frustration contiues, because the blog seems to be refusing to upload any photos. This seems to have happened a few times so if any one can tell us about a better blog site this would be great !

Since the last post we have had a stunning ride through the Alsace region of France. We have now crossed into Switzerland. We had a wonderful time staying with some of my childhood freinds in Allschwil, near Basel - thank you Sedika and Qassim! Cycling from Scotland to the place I lived as a child feels really amazing - I still can't believe we have come this far!
A side trip (by train) to see my grandparents in Ollon near Lausanne has also been a welcome break. We are back in Basel now and are setting off further up the Rhine tomorrow. H

Säntis , Appenzell taken from the road from St Gallen:
Once we had seen it, we just had to go up there ... by cable car (sorry mountaineers):
But we did not feel too guilty because the 1500m of descent was a knee-buster and Helen could barely walk for two days (oops).

  1. Try: 1. Search your blogging site for upload feature (including RTF); or
    2. Upload to an image hosting site e.g. Photobucket, or Imageshack, or Tinypic (all free) - but turn off RTF first; or
    3. Google "How to upload photos to a blog".
Hope you succeed because your pics are great - as are your blogs. Keep them coming.
