to Budapest

We spent the next 4 days cycling along the Danube towards Budapest. On the first day in Hungary, the weather turned really bad and as we packed up our wet tent in the morning we regretted not taking the campsite owner up on his offer of a bungalow the night before. We got seriously drenched leaving Gyor and a man who we hid under a bus shelter with obviously thought we were totally mad.


Town hall Gyor Thankfully, we managed to find a campsite complete with natural termal baths in Komarom that evening ! The only down side was a being woken several times in the night by a fox who tried to steal our bike helmets and actually ate one of James' flipflops.....! No photos of the fox, we were too relieved that it was not someone trying to steal our bikes......

It was sunny but freezing cold on the way to Esztergom the next day. The wind was behind us though and we managed to get away with very little pedalling on this amazing stretch of cycle path.

The following day was even colder and we ate a restuarant owner out of pancakes whilst hiding from the wind.

Having to wait half an hour at the end of the day for the ferry crossing at Vac did not help matters.

This time we greatfully accepted the offer of a roof over our heads at the campsite in Tahi. Our thanks go to the East Germans who abandoned their caravan here in the eighties!
